Brixham Future CIC has delivered 40 FREE public events, activities, displays, exhibitions, concerts, church services and more to mark the historic 80th Anniversary of D-Day. The full range of publications, including the main brochure of the events and programmes, were available in retail shops around Brixham.
The main event was the parade on the Thursday 6th June, attended by thousands of people from the `Man and Boy` statue at 10:30am on the Southern Quay, to the Breakwater Beach for our 11am Commemoration Service. There was a community sing-a-long at 12 noon followed by a special tribute from our matching Scottish Pipers Band.
We also had our of fantastic Brixham Town Band to support this histor event and a range of musical entertainments at several venues across the town. The church bells rang out in Brixham along with many others across the country in tribute at 6:30pm on D-Day to mark the event.
The Brixham Museum and Brixham Library held a special exhibition every day during festivities. There was a display of WW2 models in the Conservative Club on Saturday 8th June and Sunday 9th June. The Brixham Batter held a special one-day event on Sunday 9th June between 11am and 4pm and Fishcombe Hill, Brixham, TQ5 8RU.
We enjoyed several musical events, including 2:30-3:30pm concerts on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th June in the Methodist and Baptist Churches, attended to by hundreds of people.
There was also a major musical event held on Sunday 9th June in the Prince William Square, on the Southern Quay from 12pm, including the Brass Band at 2pm.
We are committed to delivering these quick win and low cost events that enhance our town, highlighting our cultural heritage for both residents and visitors to enjoy. The basic idea is that by enhancing Brixham’s culture offer from its rich history; we boost our community.
Our thanks must be extended to everyone involved. Most of our local voluntary sector groups who are contributing their time and effort voluntarily to mark this special occasion. The more funding we raise via the Brixham Lottery the more everyone can do.
